Ian Saunders is the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), an independent intergovernmental body established in 1952 to enhance the effectiveness of Customs administrations globally. Under his leadership, the WCO has focused on strengthening international cooperation to combat transnational crime, particularly in relation to firearms trafficking and drug smuggling. Saunders has emphasized the importance of coordinated regional operations, such as Operation CALYPSO, which aims to disrupt organized crime networks in the Caribbean by enhancing border security and intelligence sharing among member states.
