Ian Walter McDougall

Ian Walter McDougall was a celebrated Canadian trombonist, composer, and academic, known for his significant contributions to the jazz scene in Canada. Born on June 14, 1938, in Calgary, he gained fame as lead trombonist with the Grammy-winning Boss Brass and won a Juno Award in 1982. McDougall was also a dedicated educator, serving as a professor of jazz studies at the University of Victoria. His legacy includes the establishment of a fund to support fine arts students, reflecting his compassionate nature. He passed away on January 26, 2023, at the age of 87.
