Idriss Fall was a prominent Senegalese journalist and the head of the French service at Voice of America (VOA), known for his unwavering commitment to reporting the truth about Africa on the global stage. He joined VOA in 1992 and spent nearly thirty years covering major conflicts and political crises across the continent, including the Rwandan genocide and civil wars in the Congo and Gabon. His courageous reporting earned him the prestigious David Burke Distinguished Journalism Award. Fall was also a mentor to many young journalists, including Ismaël Obiang Nze, whom he recruited as a correspondent for VOA. He passed away on July 23, 2026, leaving a lasting legacy in African journalism.
