
Ingrid Silva
Ingrid Silva is a Brazilian ballet dancer and activist who began her dance journey at age eight in Rio de Janeiro. She received a scholarship to study at the Dance Theatre of Harlem in New York in 2007 and became a principal dancer with the company in 2013. Known for her commitment to promoting diversity in the arts, Silva founded the platform EmpowHer NY to empower women through education and storytelling, and co-founded Blacks in Ballet to increase visibility for Black dancers. In 2020, her hand-painted ballet shoes were added to the collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture. Recently, she was in the news for presenting a solo performance about the Amazon at a global event in New York.
