Ioan C. Michail

Ioan C. Michail (1875-1936) was a prominent Romanian patriot and philanthropist, known as the 'Lion of Oltenia.' During the Great Depression, he became the wealthiest Romanian and selflessly guaranteed a crucial foreign loan for the country, using his substantial fortune. He left his entire estate to the Romanian state, establishing the Ion C. Mihail Cultural Foundation, which aimed to support education and public welfare. His legacy continues to be honored, particularly on Ziua Olteniei.
