Ioannis Kapodistria

Ioannis Kapodistria was a prominent Greek statesman and the first governor of independent Greece, serving from 1828 until his assassination in 1831. A key figure in the Greek War of Independence against Ottoman rule, he is celebrated for his efforts to establish a modern Greek state and for advocating for the principles of republicanism and neutrality. His legacy is significant in both Greek and Swiss history, as he also worked to secure the neutrality of Switzerland during the Congress of Vienna.
