Ion Cernea

He achieved significant success in Greco-Roman wrestling, winning two Olympic medals—a silver in 1960 and a bronze in 1964—as well as multiple world championship titles. His career spanned from 1958 to 1990, during which he represented CS Dinamo both as an athlete and as a coach, nurturing generations of successful wrestlers. Cernea was also known for his marriage to the beloved folk music singer Irina Loghin, with whom he shared a deep bond. He passed away on July 1, 2023, at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in sports and a loving family.
