Irelle Lowe, an 84-year-old resident of Wairoa, faced significant challenges following devastating floods that forced her to evacuate her home. Rescued by a local vet on her horse Amber, Irelle dealt with extensive flood damage to her property and experienced multiple break-ins during her recovery. Living in a caravan on her driveway for an extended period, she has now completed repairs on her home and is grateful for the return of normalcy, although she reflects on the hardships with a sense of resilience and humor, even adopting a kitten named 'Flood' that appeared after the disaster.
