Irenaios served as the Patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church in Jerusalem and was embroiled in controversy over land sales executed by his financial chief, Nicholas Papadimas. Despite denying responsibility for the dealings, he faced significant backlash from both the church community and higher authorities, eventually leading to his ousting.
