Isauro Alonso Acero

Isauro Alonso Acero, a 96-year-old survivor of the notorious ‘Bogotazo,’ has spent decades recounting his harrowing experience during the chaos that erupted in Bogotá after the assassination of political leader Jorge Eliécer Gaitán on April 9, 1948. Originally from Soacha, Cundinamarca, Isauro found refuge in a beauty salon for a month, avoiding the violence that claimed thousands of lives. Now residing in Barranquilla, he shares his memories with his family, including five children and eight grandchildren, ensuring that the lessons of history are not forgotten.
