Ismael Rolón Silvero was the Archbishop of Asunción during the historic visit of Pope John Paul II to Paraguay in 1988, where he welcomed the pontiff on behalf of the Paraguayan Catholic community and played a significant role in the events surrounding the papal visit, which included the canonization of the first saint from Paraguay.
