Dr. Ivan Fattorini, who passed away at the age of 85, was a renowned Croatian pediatric surgeon and the long-serving director of the Children's Hospital in Klaićeva. He dedicated over 35 years to the institution, becoming synonymous with it in the minds of many. Known affectionately as 'Dedek,' Fattorini completed his medical education in Zagreb in 1965 and initially worked as a surgeon in the military hospital before transitioning to pediatric surgery, a field he passionately embraced. He notably led the hospital during the tumultuous 1990s, treating wounded children from war zones and ensuring that none lost their lives under his care. Fattorini performed an estimated 15,000 surgeries in his career and was also deeply involved in sports, notably contributing to the establishment of the basketball club Cibona. He was married to Željka Fattorini, a prominent television presenter, and leaves behind a legacy continued by his children, both of whom are also doctors.
