Abello's relationship with García Márquez began in 1983 when they met in Barranquilla, and over the years, he became a close friend and mentee. He has played a pivotal role in promoting Ibero-American journalism through the foundation, which he helped establish in 1994. He continues to honor García Márquez's legacy by inspiring new generations of storytellers.
