Jaiwen Hsu

Jaiwen Hsu is a 26-year-old man from Vienna, Virginia, who, as a child, battled bone cancer and underwent chemotherapy that risked his fertility. He participated in a pioneering study at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where testicular cells were frozen to potentially preserve fertility for young cancer survivors. In 2023, Hsu became the first known adult to receive a transplant of sperm-producing stem cells from his previously frozen testicular tissue, marking a significant step in research aimed at restoring fertility in young cancer survivors.
