Jakob Dirnböck

Jakob Dirnböck was a 19th-century Austrian poet and bookseller from Graz, best known for writing the lyrics of the 'Dachsteinlied,' a song celebrating the natural beauty of the Styrian region. Composed in 1844 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Styrian Agricultural Society, his work reflects the idyllic landscapes and cultural heritage of his homeland. Although the song gained recognition as the Styrian national anthem in 1929, its geographic references have since sparked political debate regarding territorial claims, particularly in relation to Slovenia.
