Jan Jerzy Milewski

Jan Jerzy Milewski was a renowned historian who dedicated his career to the study of modern Polish history and the historical dynamics of northeastern Poland during the interwar period. Educated at the University of Warsaw, he spent most of his professional life at the Bialystok University, contributing significantly to the field with approximately 300 publications, many of which focused on urban communities and Polish-Jewish relations during World War II. His scholarly work and participation in various academic discussions earned him respect in Poland, Belarus, and Lithuania, where he was remembered fondly for his understanding of Belarusian historical suffering.
