Janet Lee Stevens was an American Arabist and journalist known for her deep understanding of Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. She accompanied author John Le Carré during his visit to the Sabra and Shatila camps, which inspired his novel 'The Little Drummer Girl.' Tragically, she died in a bombing at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut in 1983 while advocating for greater U.S. involvement in Palestinian and Lebanese Shiite affairs.
