Janis Grinbergas
Janis Grinbergas, born on October 29, 1925, in Liepaja, Latvia, was a prominent figure in Lithuanian sports, particularly in handball. He is celebrated as the father of handball in Lithuania, having served as a state coach, a referee of international caliber, and the first secretary-general of the Lithuanian National Olympic Committee (LTOK). Grinbergas participated in numerous Olympic Games and contributed significantly to the development of handball both in Lithuania and internationally until his passing on March 9, 2013. His legacy continues through the generations of athletes and officials he mentored.
