
Janis Šternbergs
Janis Šternbergs (1900–1981) was a prominent Latvian graphic artist and art educator whose work spanned much of the 20th century. He is best known for his innovative techniques in printmaking, particularly his unique sand patterns created through a meticulous process using aluminum oxide sand. After fleeing Latvia during World War II, he continued to develop his artistic practice in the United States, where his contributions significantly enriched the Latvian artistic landscape. His legacy is marked by a deep understanding of craftsmanship and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of graphic arts.
