Janko Brnović

Janko Brnović is a master craftsman and part of a five-generation family tradition of building traditional wooden boats known as čun, which are emblematic of Skadar Lake in Montenegro. With a commitment to preserving the unique techniques of boat-making, he and his son Marko utilize age-old methods to create these artisanal vessels, emphasizing the importance of using quality materials and manual craftsmanship. His skills have been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage by the state since 2014, highlighting the cultural significance of their work. Recently, he has been vocal about the challenges faced by traditional boat builders in navigating modern regulations and the need for better recognition and support for this cherished craft.
