Jaume Matas is a Spanish politician from the People's Party (PP) who served as the President of the Balearic Islands and held the position of Minister of the Environment under José María Aznar. He was convicted in 2014 for various crimes including malversación (misappropriation of funds), prevaricación (abuse of power), falsedad documental (document fraud), and fraud against the administration, resulting in a six-year prison sentence. Matas has faced multiple legal challenges since then and was granted third-degree status in 2020 after serving part of his sentence.
