Javier Meléndez

Javier Meléndez is a prominent Nicaraguan political scientist and the director of Expediente Abierto, a research center focused on security and international affairs based in Washington, D.C. He is also the founder of the Institute of Strategic Studies and Public Policies (IEEPP), which was dissolved by the Ortega-Murillo regime in 2018. Meléndez is known for his expertise in the dynamics of repression and intelligence operations in Central America, particularly the influence of Nicaraguan and Cuban intelligence services. He has recently drawn attention for his statements regarding the assassination of former Nicaraguan military dissident Roberto Samcam, emphasizing the transnational repression faced by Nicaraguan exiles in Costa Rica.
