Jean-Baptiste de La Quintinie

Jean-Baptiste de La Quintinie (1626-1688) was a prominent French horticulturist known for his role in developing the gardens of the Palace of Versailles. Appointed by King Louis XIV, he was responsible for establishing the Potager du roi, a kitchen garden that not only supplied the royal court with fresh produce but also served as a model of horticultural excellence. His expertise in growing fruits and vegetables helped lay the groundwork for modern gardening techniques in France.
