Jinchao Wei

Jinchao Wei, a 25-year-old former US Navy sailor, was convicted of espionage for selling military secrets to a Chinese agent he initially connected with through social media. Wei, who held a security clearance, provided sensitive information regarding US Navy ships, including photographic evidence and operational details, in exchange for over $12,000 across 18 months. His actions were deemed a severe betrayal of trust, jeopardizing the safety of his fellow sailors and national security. Wei is scheduled for sentencing on December 1, 2023, and could face life in prison.
