João Paulo Silva
João Paulo Silva is a researcher at the Centro de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos of the University of Porto (Biopolis-Cibio), known for his work in biodiversity conservation, particularly concerning the Tetrax tetrax species, commonly known as the bustard. He recently participated in a collaborative project in Kyrgyzstan, where he and his colleague Carlos Pacheco spent two weeks helping local teams to equip bustards with GPS devices. This initiative aims to better understand the migratory patterns and biology of the species, which is facing significant threats in its native Iberian habitat. Silva's expertise in bird capture and marking is particularly valuable as he seeks to connect the declining European populations of bustards with their more stable counterparts in Central Asia.
