João Queiroz
João Queiroz was a renowned Portuguese painter and educator, known for his deep investigations into the relationship between the observer and the natural world. Born in 1957, he studied Philosophy at the Universidade Clássica de Lisboa and began exhibiting his work in the late 1980s. Queiroz's artistic practice was characterized by a blend of drawing and painting, exploring complex themes such as composition, color, and perception that have influenced Western art since the Renaissance. He was also a dedicated teacher at Ar.Co in Lisbon, shaping the careers of many young artists. His significant exhibitions included 'Pintura' at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and 'Silvae' at Culturgest, where he received the AICA/MC/Millennium BCP Prize in 2011. Queiroz passed away in October 2023, leaving a legacy of thought-provoking art and teachings.
