Between 1869 and 1880, he successfully escaped from prison seven times, using inventive methods and tools he crafted himself. His cleverness and audacity earned him a reputation as a genius outlaw, even leading to the construction of a special cell designed to contain him, which ultimately failed. Thali’s escapades were emblematic of a larger cultural fascination with freedom and rebellion against authority.
