John Colbeck
John Colbeck was a 17th-century English colonial figure who played a significant role in Jamaica's early history. Arriving with British forces in 1655, he was granted a large tract of land on which he constructed Colbeck Castle around 1680. This impressive structure served both as his residence and a fortification, exemplifying Italian Palladian architecture. Colbeck led a solitary life and passed away at the age of 52, leaving his estate to the church. His legacy is preserved through the castle, which stands as a testament to Jamaica's rich historical narrative.
