John Eyre

John Eyre was the Governor of Jamaica during the time of the 1865 Morant Bay Uprising, a pivotal event in Jamaican history that highlighted the social injustices faced by the black population. His refusal to address the grievances raised by local leaders like Paul Bogle and George William Gordon led to widespread unrest, culminating in violent confrontations that resulted in significant loss of life and ultimately the end of his governorship.
