
John Swigert
John Swigert was an American astronaut and test pilot, best known for his role as the Command Module Pilot of the Apollo 13 mission in 1970. He was born on August 30, 1931, in Denver, Colorado. Swigert graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force before joining NASA. During the Apollo 13 mission, Swigert famously communicated the critical message, 'Okay, Houston, we've had a problem here,' after an oxygen tank explosion put the mission in jeopardy. His quick thinking and expertise, along with the teamwork of his fellow astronauts and ground control, were vital in ensuring the safe return of the crew. Swigert's contributions to space exploration were recognized with numerous awards, and he later served in the U.S. House of Representatives. He passed away from cancer in 1982.
