Jón Otti Ólafsson was a prominent Icelandic printer and former basketball referee, known for his significant contributions to the sport of basketball in Iceland. Born on July 10, 1941, in Reykjavík, he began playing basketball in 1956 and later joined the KR men's team, where he played about 200 games. He became a licensed referee in 1961 and officiated over 1,600 games during his career. Additionally, he was instrumental in organizing basketball officiating in Iceland and served as the chairman of the referee committee from 1973 to 1983. Jón Otti received several honors for his work in basketball, including being named the referee of the century in 2001. He passed away on February 28, 2023, at the age of 83.
