Jonas Dovydėnas
Jonas Dovydėnas, born on February 12, 1939, in Kaunas, was a notable figure in the Lithuanian-American community, known for his work as a photographer and patron of the arts. He was the son of the acclaimed writer Liudas Dovydėnas and emigrated to the United States after World War II, spending time in a refugee camp before settling in America. Dovydėnas served in the U.S. Air Force and later pursued studies in English literature and photography. Over his career, he contributed to numerous prestigious publications and was recognized for his impactful documentary photography. He was also involved in supporting Lithuanian literature through various awards and scholarships, including establishing a documentary photography scholarship for Lithuanian creators. Tragically, he passed away on September 23, 2023, following a car accident while en route to present an award in Rokiškis, Lithuania.
