José de la Serna was a Spanish colonial administrator and military officer who served as the Viceroy of Peru during the period of the South American wars of independence. He is known for his leadership of the royalist forces in Peru, particularly during the Battle of Junín in 1824, where his troops initially held an advantage before being ultimately defeated by the patriotic forces.
