José María Gran Cirera

José María Gran Cirera was a Spanish priest and a member of the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who dedicated his life to serving the poor and marginalized in Guatemala. He was recognized for his commitment to social justice and the defense of indigenous rights during a tumultuous period in the country’s history. Gran Cirera was tragically assassinated in 1980, and his legacy has been honored by the Catholic Church, notably through his beatification by Pope Francis in 2021, highlighting his martyrdom and dedication to the faith amidst persecution.
