José Martins Júnior

José Martins Júnior was a prominent Madeiran priest, born on November 16, 1938, who served in the Ribeira Seca parish from 1969 until his death in 2025. He was notably suspended from his clerical duties for 42 years due to conflicts with the ecclesiastical authorities, yet continued to serve his community, earning the support of locals. In 2019, his suspension was revoked, highlighting his significant role in both the church and local politics, having been elected multiple times as a municipal leader and deputy in the Madeira Legislative Assembly.
