Josef Roth

Josef Roth was a renowned journalist and writer born in the late 19th century in Brody, Galicia, which was then situated at the crossroads of the Austro-Hungarian and Russian empires. His works document the tumultuous changes in Europe following World War I, reflecting on the collapse of empires and the emergence of new ideologies. Roth's writings are characterized by their emotional depth and a unique narrative style that transcends mere reporting, engaging readers with a profound sense of place and identity. Despite his significant impact on literature and journalism, Roth remains relatively unknown in Ukraine, a situation that a new theatrical project aims to address by bringing his work to the stages of Lviv and Vienna.
