Joseph Fontaine

Joseph Fontaine was a French politician who served as the Minister of Labor, Employment, and Population. He is notably remembered for his role during the aftermath of the tragic nightclub fire at '5-7' in Saint-Laurent-du-Pont, France, in 1970, which resulted in the deaths of 146 people. Fontaine presided over the recovery process of the victims' bodies and paid homage on behalf of President Georges Pompidou. His involvement highlighted the urgent need for improved safety standards in public venues across France.
