Joseph Merrill Currier

Joseph Merrill Currier was a Vermont-born lumber baron and politician who built the ornate mansion at 24 Sussex Drive in Ottawa in 1868 as a wedding gift for his wife, Hannah Wright. The mansion, originally named 'Gorffwysfa', was designed by Currier's brother and became a significant historical residence, eventually serving as the official home of Canadian prime ministers.
