Joshua ben Gamla

Joshua ben Gamla was a prominent rabbi in the first century CE known for his significant contribution to Jewish education. He is credited with the religious edict, Takkanah, which mandated that all Jewish fathers send their sons to school at the age of six or seven to learn Hebrew and study the Torah, thus laying the foundations for formal Jewish education.
