Jovanka Stojković

Jovanka Stojković was a pioneering Serbian pianist and composer, recognized as the first professional female pianist of Serbian descent. Born on March 5, 1852, in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, she gained acclaim in the 19th century for her performances across Europe, including cities like Belgrade, Rome, and Paris. Despite the lack of recordings from her time, she was noted for her virtuosic piano interpretations and compositions, which are now largely lost. Her legacy is celebrated in Serbia, and she is acknowledged as an important figure in the history of Serbian music.
