Jovelina Farias Belfort

Jovelina Farias Belfort, known as Jovelina Pérola Negra (1944-1998), was an influential samba singer from Rio de Janeiro, recognized for her deep, distinctive voice and her significant contributions to the samba scene during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Despite achieving fame later in life, she became a prominent figure in the Cacique de Ramos collective, alongside other greats like Zeca Pagodinho and Jorge Aragão. Jovelina's life and legacy are being celebrated in a new musical titled 'Pérola Negra do samba,' premiering at the Teatro Carlos Gomes.
