Juan Carlos Plata, affectionately known as 'el Pin', is a legendary figure in Guatemalan football, celebrated for his outstanding contributions to the national team. His debut for the Guatemala national team took place on January 14, 1996, against Mexico in the Gold Cup. Over his illustrious career, Plata made 87 appearances and scored 35 goals, making him the second all-time top scorer for Guatemala, trailing only Carlos Ruiz. His memorable performances include a historic header against Brazil during the 1998 Gold Cup, which remains one of the highlights in the nation's football history.
