Juan Díaz de Solís was a Spanish explorer known for his early expeditions to South America, particularly for being the first European to navigate the Río de la Plata in 1516. His journey ended tragically when he was killed by indigenous people in 1521, which led to the appointment of Sebastián Gaboto as Pilot Major.
