Juan Formell

Juan Formell was a Cuban composer and guitarist, widely recognized as the founder of the legendary salsa orchestra Los Van Van in 1970. His innovative fusion of traditional Cuban son with contemporary rhythms, particularly the creation of the 'songo' style, revolutionized the Latin music scene. Formell's clever and often humorous lyrics resonated deeply with the Cuban public, addressing everyday life and societal issues. Under his leadership, Los Van Van became known as the 'Rolling Stones of salsa', earning numerous accolades including a Latin Grammy. He passed away in 2014, leaving behind a rich legacy in Cuban music.
