Juan José Santana Trinidad, a former priest, has been in the news after being captured in Uruguay following 17 years as a fugitive. He is accused of sexually abusing at least 30 Quechua children at the 'Monseñor Ángel Gelmí' boarding school in Tapacarí, Cochabamba, between 2005 and 2007. After the allegations emerged in 2007, he fled to Uruguay, where he lived in hiding until his recent arrest. Santana has admitted to some of the accusations, and the Bolivian authorities are now pursuing his extradition to face justice.
