Juba I
Juba I (85-46 BC) was the last legitimate king of Eastern Numidia, known for his alliance with the Pompeian faction against Julius Caesar. After his defeat at the Battle of Thapsus, he chose to die honorably in battle rather than be captured. His legacy continued through his son, Juba II, who became king of Mauritania and sought to honor his father's memory through monumental constructions, including a proposed cenotaph in Cádiz.
