Judith Heumann is remembered as a pivotal figure in the disability rights movement, known for her relentless advocacy for the rights of individuals with disabilities. Overcoming significant barriers from a young age, including being denied access to education and professional opportunities due to her use of a wheelchair, Heumann became a trailblazer in her field. She was the first wheelchair-using teacher in New York City after winning a landmark court case. Co-founding the World Institute on Disability and serving as the first Special Advisor for International Disability Rights at the U.S. State Department, she worked tirelessly to promote disability rights globally. Heumann played a crucial role in the historic Section 504 sit-ins in San Francisco in 1977 and her life inspired the Oscar-nominated documentary 'Crip Camp.'
