Justin Nsengiyumva is a Rwandan economist and politician who recently became the Prime Minister of Rwanda, appointed by President Paul Kagame. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Leicester and has previously served as the deputy governor of the National Bank of Rwanda. Nsengiyumva has a background in the education sector, having worked as the permanent secretary at Rwanda's education ministry. His career has also included a stint as a senior economist for the UK government. Notably, he was previously convicted of corruption while in office, but was pardoned by Kagame in March 2023. His appointment marks a significant change in Rwanda's leadership, as he takes over from Edouard Ngirente, who had served as prime minister since 2017.
