
Kamiran Hosni
Kamiran Hosni (July 1, 1927 - September 2004) was an influential Iraqi filmmaker and a pioneer of realistic cinema in Iraq. He earned a master's degree in film directing from the United States and was dedicated to establishing a distinctive Iraqi cinema presence. He founded Iraq's first film magazine, 'Cinema,' in 1955 and directed the acclaimed film 'Said Afandi' (1956), which marked a significant milestone in Iraqi cinema. Despite facing challenges that led him to shift away from filmmaking to commerce, his contributions to the arts remain significant, and 'Said Afandi' was later restored and celebrated internationally.
