Kanzi was a 44-year-old bonobo known for his exceptional intelligence and linguistic abilities, recognized as one of the most intelligent non-human primates. Born on October 28, 1980, at the Ape Initiative research center, he gained fame for his ability to understand spoken English and communicate using lexigrams—a form of visual symbol language. Kanzi's cognitive skills were remarkable; he was able to comprehend commands and even engage with modern technology, such as playing the video game Minecraft. His unexpected death, attributed to heart disease, came as a shock to caregivers and researchers, who noted that he had shown no signs of illness prior to his passing.
